There is no such thing as a demon. I believe that the primary cause of the problem is overconsumption of alcohol.

They are possessed by "spirits." I've not read anything regarding DNA, but alcoholism is thought to be an addiction, this is why often alcoholics can also be dependent on drugs, sex, or in codependent relationships.

I believe alcoholism is a disease. On the other hand there are people who drink alcohol with no problems.
