During the actual removal they should numb you up- maybe a little pain from the needle going in to provide the anesthetic. However you'll likely have some pain afterwards once the numbing wears off. The areas under our finger and toenails is pretty sensitive. You'll likely not want to wear a shoe any more than you have to for the next few days. But it should be bearable.

I can say I took half my big toenail off, when I caught it under a door, and that was very sore, as anything exposed to air that shouldn't be. But it did heal. They will numb it first before removing it so it shouldn't be painful, but from my experience I imagine it will be sore afterwards.
