Well you use the title Satan, rather that satan, which in Jewish belief is mans' evil inclination. Satan in Jewish thought is equated with the angel of death. I think with choice had to come an opposing condition. If man was to chose God, then there had to be an alternative to that choice which was without God. Which is what the tree of knowledge of good and evil, a duality, or tree of death represented. .When you read the bible Satan appears as a tempter, and beguiler that God tolerates, even further than that, Paul actually states to hand a man over to Satan in order to save him, 1 Cor 5:5 "you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord." And Luke also echoes this 22:31 "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat," 2 Corinthians 12 "I will boast about such a man, but I will not boast about myself, except in my weaknesses. 6 Even if I wanted to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will credit me with more than he sees in me or hears from me, 7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. So to keep me from becoming conceited, a I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. 10 That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." Job 2:7 "So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown." So if one can withstand, what Satan does is humbles, it brings out the worse in man in order for him to hit rock bottom. Hence, this is why he is allowed to exist. We are all still in the garden, still with the same temptation and we all eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, when we stop doing that and chose the tree of life, we will be saved. The Devils Advocate was a good film, like he says "I'm no pupper master, I only set the stage, you pull your own strings."

The word "Satan" can be translated "accuser" or even "Prosecutor" - in the sense of a legal trial. We see in Zechariah that Satan acts very much as we might expect a Prosecutor to act in a courtroom. Presumably: it is Satan's duty to (pun intended) "play devil's advocate", to find charges to bring against humans when they face the "Final Judgment".

Satan exists because God allows him to. He does the work of God. Read the book of JOB, Chapt 1.😊

There must be opposition in all things. We couldn't recognize or discern good from bad if there was no opposition. You can't appreciate the sun if its all you've ever known. We would take it for granted. And to give us the opportunity to choose good instead of evil.
