For decades the only legal casinos in the U.S. were in Nevada, and most of them were in Las Vegas. Also: prostitution is not outlawed by the state of Nevada (though - I learned from watching "COPS" - it's not legal in Las Vegas itself -- apparently there are city ordinances -- it IS legal in some other cities, including some suburbs of Las Vegas) *** The moniker "Sin City" dates to a time when gambling and prostitution were widely considered by Americans to be some of the worst of vices, and at that time those were legal in (or around) Las Vegas but not elsewhere.
