I think that the major Western nations should have pledged some sort of military solidarity with Ukraine. I.e. I think that they should all have promised some sort of military support (for example: air support) in the case of Ukraine being invaded. Yes, I know: that's a reversion to Cold War politics...and it was very effective. In the 45 years following WWII the USSR attacked one and only one nation in an attempt to conquer it: Afghanistan. And note: the USSR failed in that effort because we supplied Afghanistan with tremendous amounts of our latest weapons, the Stinger missiles, which were especially useful in that particular conflict. *** But all of the major Western leaders have (essentially) already promised Russia that the only reaction will be sanctions. Because of that announcement, Russia has had PLENTY of time to move their foreign assets either back to Russia or to friendly or neutral nations.
