Is Yoga a religion?
With a sun god and you bow to it? I've done yoga a time or two for exercise and flexibility, but was only recently introduced to the idea that it is a religion. I'm familiar with the idea that we can make idols out of many of our possessions and the phrase they, do it 'religiously' is common these days. But I'm thankful MY GOD knows my heart and mind when it comes to my ignorance. Other times it causes conviction that doesn't feel good at the time, but I'm thankful for it after I repent.

Yoga is the practice and discipline of holding poses. This practice has benefits for your health, both physically and mentally. Yoga was developed by Hindus as a physical, mental, and spiritual exercise, so it is deeply rooted in Hinduism; however, the practice itself is irreligious, and has since become an important part of Jainism, Buddhism, and caught on as a secular practice in mixed-faith communities. Think of it this way, maybe, yoga is like prayer. Just as prayer is used in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Paganism, etc., yoga can be practiced in any spiritual religion or even secularly outside of any religion. In short, no.

It's part of practicing a religion, originally an ascetic practive in India, Hindu, yoga from the Sanskrit yuj means "to yoke," hence you are yoking/joining/uniting yourself to something, a supreme being, or escape from reincarnation.

Creamcrackered I am not Hindu. I do not practice yoga, (I did many years ago). I don't read anywhere in the bible where it speaks of practicing yoga, however, the human body is described as a temple (hence why a person must not defile it, or be yoked to prostitution of foreign gods). In Hindu one loses the ego for the soul (Atman) to yoke with Brahman. I am a woman. -

Once I heard it was religious in nature I realized it could be a seemingly innocuous way to get a toe in the door. But then even though the internet and tv are not in themselves religious they do allow religious ideation to infiltrate the home. Best to keep the defenses up. -

I don't hardly watch TV, but I see what you mean. It's all up to us to "keep the defenses up." The internet is an integral part of communication and productivity in modern society. Thanks to the internet, I am able to use Bible Hub, Bible Gateway and other Bible websites to support my religious answers. Studying on the internet can make learning more interesting and thus improve the general learning process.

Yoga is classified as exercise, just as Weightlifting is classified as exercise, That doesn't mean both "form of exercises" go together.
