One day when you're on one side of the courtroom or the other, would you want a dozen "professional" serial jurors deciding your fate, or would you rather have a jury of your peers - you know, a bunch of annoyed folks who don't really want to be there at all? I see your point.

It's not really the most dumbest law we have. But, which folks do you propose to have make up a jury of your peers when you go on trial?

They could be higher..... I just completed my two weeks of jury duty about a month ago. Got to call in everyday to see if I was needed the next day. Funny how it's the 4th time I was randomly chosen in the last 12 months.

Because the person on trial gets to be judged by a jury of their peers that's their peers not the DA's peers not the judge's peers but normal people

It's your obligation as a citizen.
-
A jury of your peers is independent without prejudice or motive.

I don't think you'll ever get a group of people together who have no prejudices or motives. I think the idea of having 12 jurors, is that those prejudices are watered down within the group. -

Watch "12 Angry Men" (1957) then imagine the group is only interested in going home and never gets to the debate.
