Asbestos is a fibrous material that was used as electrical and heat insulation, often formed as a mat or spray insulation. It has been mostly banned from use in consumer products. In an older home, you may find floor tiles or insulation wraps around heating pipes containing asbestos. These should be removed if they are damaged and dust or debris from the material is exposed. Remember to have plenty of ventilation, open windows, doors and fans blowing outside when working with any of this material.
