When my wife and were younger with small kids we did generally budget. We never, however, wrote down anything but were well aware when we had to eliminate non-essentials purchases.

I have a loose plan rather than a strict budget

Always. Can't recall when I didn't. A monthly budget keeps me on track, and always have an extra hundred bucks at the end of the month, in case of an emergency.

I spend $ on my bills and then food money budget is the most flexible. Sometimes I over spend on that and go buy a ton of ramen for the last week and cheap food stuff with my last 50$.

I don't HAVE to, but I do. I'm a long term thinker and planner.

No...I just make sure to live within my means. So: I don't budget. That is (for example): I don't specify what I need to buy and then list the things I can afford to buy. I just don't buy things that I can't afford, enough so that my savings increase. Some weeks my savings increases a little, sometimes a lot, in infrequent situations I feel a real need to spend some of my savings...but never MORE than my savings.
-
In my head, I know what I my expenses are and how much I am spending.
-
When you live on SS you had better budget! I live on my SS.
-
Yes I budget. Examples. I buy store brand versions of brand names. Store brands are usually the brand name in a store packaging. I shop at thrifts. I comparison shop and buy the cheapest brand that I can still like for the quality.

When money was tight, I did budget.
