That is some code gibberish that appears when the program runs into an error. I used to see that all the time (elsewhere) in place of the quotation marks I had actually typed, because the program didn't remember them to reproduce them for some reason. It hadnt been told how to recognize what quotation marks were, in certain circumstances, so it marked their locations as errors.

It's short for "ampersand". That's the correct name for the & symbol.
