In many places in the Arab world, this is still the case. It's mind boggling. I say cultural Isalm which includes the mores and customs of the peoples and tribes apart from Koran; religious Isalm is what is contained in the Koran and the commentaries by Islamic scholars.

I don't think there is a set number. However, in today's world 'concubines' are very rare... probably only found in the extremely rich or royal families. Moreover, in Islam the 'freeing' of slaves is more virtuous.

how many ppl watch maury? these guys luv their wives but r no longer attracted to them so they cheat with many many many women...CHEATING HAS BECOME A NORM!!! oh but polygamy is so bad...Allah swt has an answer to all societys problems...and in this case a concubine is one. id rather b a concubine than a sideline ho that he gets with only on the down low. if my husband was no longer attracted to me id rather him remarry and treat us fairly then leave me for another girl. think about all the illnesses to society that will b cured if polygamy was legal...AIDS, prostitution, cheating...and the list goes on. God is the Creator and he knows his creations...he knows how he created men and how he created women...it just works.
