It's been a long time since I have seen an Escher drawing, so I went and had a good look at a few. He WAS fantastic, wasn't he? In the end, I chose "Day and Night".

All of them. He's one of my favorite artists. Right up there with DaVinci and Degas in my book.

The human eye with a skull in it's reflection. It's not what I would typically associate with Escher, but it is a powerful image - reminds me of mortality. I also like other Escher works - the way they draw the eye in and play tricks on the mind. Here's the picture I was talking about:

I like the 'Drawing Hands' drawing! (No kidding!). 'Hand with Reflecting Sphere', 'Up and Down', 'Day and Night', 'Sky and Water', 'House of Stairs', 'Waterfall', etc..... I like a lot of them! :-)

my faves of his drawings & lithographs are waterfall, relativity and metamorphosis. i saw an incredible exhibit at the national gallery of art in dc and was awestruck by metamorphosis ~ it was incredibly huge in size and appeared larger than life ~ i think i spent an hour staring at it. i might have been slackjawed (not sure). escher is a master optical illusionist.
