Yes, Prime Minister. The scripts from that ought to be studied as some of the finest literature in the English language. Sooooo clever.
-
I don't know about being the best,,, but I really liked 'Next Of Kin' and I love 'The Royale Family'
-
Fawlty towers

I was going to say The Goodies, but someone just HAD to mention the The Young Ones. Now I'm tied between the two - The Goodies contained some of the best modern-era slapstick ever filmed, and it was funny in such a pure way while still managing to be dirty in parts. The Young Ones, however, was hilariously vulgar and beautifully low-budget (name another show that features a ginger punk sticking his head out of a two-story window, yelling "Shut up, you bastards!" at a clock tower). It was also remarkably simple - the humour generated from fights between Vivian and (p)Rick, where they would just throw props at each other, is a good example of this. To summarise, I really can't choose. What do you think?
-
The Vicar of Dibley and Absolutely Fabulous.
-
Well, my obvious first choice is Monty Python's Flying Circus, doesn't get much better than that in my book. Although Are You Being Served comes in a close second by merit of the fact that it is quite possibly the most innuendo-laden thing ever recorded on film.
-
Dad's Army.

I have only seen a small sample of Brittish TV ... a friend has TV4PC on a high speed broadband. Of all the shows mentioned so far, I have only seen a single episode of "Are You Being Served", but none of the rest. I can only comment on shows that have been imported and are being rebroadcast here in Montreal (or were in the past) ... Monty Python's Flying Circus and Mr. Bean are tied at the top of my list.

There are several, but I think my favorite was/is Fawlty Towers. :-)

I have to go with Absolutely Fabulous. Patsy and Edina were a riot. I loved when Eddie said, "I want total sensory deprivation and back-up drugs. "
-
red dwarf if not that black adder is a close second
-
Hands down it was Benny Hill. Are you Being Served was good as well.
-
This comes late, but hopefully not too late: The Singing Detective and Soap Check those out! (Just as an addition, Goodies and Monty Python are classics anyway, I a big fan of Graeme Garden - David Walliams from Little Britain is right to refer to him regularly).
-

Black Books, The Office, Peep Show, Ab Fab, Keeping up Appearances, Birds of a Feather, the Vicar of Dibley, Blackadder, Green wing, I used to love Porridge when I was about ten, for some reason...millions. But the best has to be Fawlty Towers. And I'm obsessed with Father Ted.
-
The office, Ali G...if that's british
-
BOTTOM!!!!! and blackadder, the young ones, red dwarf.
-
Here are my personal favorites; - Black Adder - Mr. Bean - Little Britain - Vicar of Dibley I'm sure alot of people share my views!
-
Fawlty Towers.
-
"Fawlty Towers". John Cleese et al were masters. "Are You Being Served?" was also a favourite. Those are the best we could get "over here" (PBS). I am sure there were better ones we did not see...unless satelited with BBC. Monty Python was good, but it was a little too "British" for most Yankees to "get".
-
I love Keeping Up Appearances! That show is sooo funny!
-
this is an easy one Monty Pythons Flying Circus!
-
"Peep Show" is epic
-
Black Adder, but not series one when Edmund was a sniveling grotesque. I loved him as the biting, supercilious, witty, bully he later became. Some great one liners, and who doesn't love Baldrick and his cunning plans?
-
As others have mentioned we dont see all of them on the west side of the pond. I have enjoyed several. Are you being served was good but stayed too long. Vicar of Dibley ok.Keeping UP ...is annoying actually. Also Chef.I just went thru the whole list of answers and didn't see my favorite "One Foot in The Grave". It was kinda of a downer though, when the star got killed off to end the series.
-
two and a half men
-
My favorit comedy show is unfortunately a cartoon. It's Family Guy, and yes - it is definitely dumbed down to be funny.
-
Its got to be Little Britain, because you can relate to all of the characters
-
I always laughed out loud watching the "President George W. Bush Press Conferences."
-
Family Guy, 2 and a Half men, Everybody Loves Raymond, That 70s show, Major Sarcastic Comedy Fan! lol
