Yes. My dad (award winning chocolate-chip cookie master) advocates using room-temperature, soft but not melted butter because cookies made with melted butter tend to be less moist and are more runny while baking, which makes them lose their round shape. Also, melted butter cookies seem to burn faster. He advises that you set your butter out a few hours before baking. If you're really in a pinch, you can put your butter in the microwave on 50% power, but you have to watch it carefully and take it out before it melts at all. Hope that helps!

In most doughs they will make the cookies spread and burn around the edges. But there are some recipes that only use melted butter that are fabulous like tuiles.
