My PS2 freezes every time I play sports games including Madden 2004, NHL 2004, NHL 2003, ESPN football, etc, but it plays other games fine. Any idea why it would freeze on sports games?

If you have an old PS2 (more than a couple of years), then you have an ealier generation of the PS2. WIth the introduction of the new games, there are also new formats of cds and dvds that have come out. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it but to go trade in your old PS2 and get a new one.
