In basic training or "Boot Camp"...the problem is getting any sleep, not being told. After basic, on military property, the sleeping areas have the lights turned out at 10pm (Taps). If you don't want to sleep you can go to another location and stay up all night if you desire but you had better be ready to do your job at 6am.

Army VeteranTAPS is at 5:00 pm - the end of the work day. When the lights are turned off, it's just "Lights Out". Whether you go to sleep or not is up to you.

During boot camp you will. When you get to your post, it's going to be up to you, depending on operational needs.

No, you don't get told what time to go to sleep. The lights are turned off at 10 pm and it's up to the individual when to go to sleep.
