divorce yes, gay marriage no.
-
I don't believe either should be illegal. While I believe divorce should be a last resort, and a couple should at least undergo counseling, they should not be forced to live their lives together when they find out that they are not as compatible as they thought/one of the two is abusive toward the other. I won't even touch the subject of gay marriage. Suffice it to say, it should be legal. I will go no further than that, as I see no reason to explain myself.
-
no to both.
-
Absolutely. I find it surprising and disappointing this fundamental right is still illegal in so many places.
-
Both should be legal. I don't see why the government should get involved in people's personal lives, unless it involves megadeath. Be that as it may, it's the money that counts, not whatever bs moral is said to be attributed to it. Most cardinals were probably all atheists anyways.
-
If it weren't for gay marriage ruining traditional marriage, divorce would be unnecessary, don't ya know.
-
No! How can it be right to condemn people to continue living together even if they can't get on....and how can it be fair to not allow a loving couple who happen to be the same sex some sort of contract giving them pension rights etc.
-
Making divorce illegal is like saying bosses can't fire anyone. It's the same process: Ending a legal contract. Making gay marriage illegal is DISCRIMINATION. How do you not understand that?
-
If divorce were made illegal, the institution of marriage would cease to be, making the second part of your questions moot. And, really... Why shouldn't gays be allowed to marry?
-
If your (future) wife cheats on you repeatedly, would you want to stay with her for the rest of your life? Even when you give her everything she asks for and you do everything she ask you to do? Divorce is a last resort but the option should be available for you and everyone else unless you like being forced to do something you don't want to do. As for gay marriage ... do I have to suck a d*ck? No? Then what do I care if gay people get married. It doesn't affect my life so they can do whatever they want.
-
No, they should both be legal
-
Why lump them? Of the married couples I know, more divorce than the "union" couples... If gays were allowed to marry, it would only up the marraige rate... Why do you care if you are not in these groups?
-
The opposite. Both of them should be legal.
-
What do you think Nick?
-
None of them should be illegal. I still don't get how does someone elses marrige effect you...
-
Interesting proposition here. If we make divorce illegal we compel people to live together whether they want to or not. If we make gay marriage illegal we prevent people from living together even if they want to. Both concepts seem to deprive people of their fundamental rights. I certainly would protest if someone tried to prevent me from doing something I wanted to do and knew that by doing it nobody would be harmed/injured/damaged. At the same time, I would certainly protest if someone tried to compel me to do something that I honestly believed would make me miserable/unhappy/disturbed/aggravated and so forth. What ever happened to the notion that we live in a country that "guarantees freedom", that "all men have inalienable rights...to be happy?
-
Hell no.
-
Not unless you want WWIII on your hands.
-
yes it should be illegal because first of all being gay is a act against natuer a ebomanation. divorce causes a number of problems and when people bind themselfs to eachother it should be permanit not some loose push over term.
-
Nick, Why do you always ask questions about Gays? One or two questions or answers I would understand, but you are always in the thick of it. What is your fascination with us if you don't mind me asking?
-
Nope.. to each his/her own..
-
Sure but only after they make being an overzealous religious nutbag who tries to cram their deluded sense of moral values down everyone's throats punishable by death.
-
No, and no. Women shouldn't be forced to live with abusive partners (and vice versa).
-
Absolutely not - to either.
-
Neither of them should be illegal. Why should the government be involved in people's personal lives, and why should anyone's ability to marry or divorce affect you? If you don't agree with divorce, don't get a divorce. If you don't agree with gay marriage, don't marry someone the same gender as yourself. It's as simple as that.

My favourite T-shirt reflects my Libertarian leanings = "Legalize everything"! ;-)

naw

What does one have to do with the other? I find it ironic that so many conservatives claim that gay marriage would destroy the sacredness of marriage, yet so very many of them divorce. Double standards indeed. One problem with the premise of Lev. 18:22, no where does it prohibit lesbians. So yes, gay marriage is NOT forbidden. How does one lie with a woman? Missionary. So long as two dudes don't do the missionary- it's fine. Cafeteria Christian.
-
government should not be involved in marriage anyway. use existing contract law. treat a marriage as a business partnership.
-
Of course not, how silly.
-
marriage should be a one year contract renewable with the consent of both parties. every year they should pay a fee for renewal. no fee no renewal. it would slow down the devorce rate. Gay marriage is a joke. It just proves that one of the two people has feminine qualities.
-
I've not read any of the other answers - - when the former administration wanted to add a United States Constitutional Amendment saying a marriage is 'one man/one woman' [ thus making gay marriage legally impossible] with the so-called rationale of 'protecting the institution of marriage,' my immediate thought was -- if that's the rationale, then they best add a clause outlawing divorce - - to also save/protect that marriage institution. [ Honestly, it was obvious, in my opinion - the true rationale was to just ban gay marriage, not protect the institution of marriage. ] +5
-
Nah people should be free of doing what they want. Unfortunately Freedom isnt legal yet.
-
No, but being gay should be, then it wouldnt even come to the point of arguing marriages
-
Sure! You bet! Better yet = Whaddabout 'outlawing' *everything* not sanctioned by alla Christian (and like-kind) churches so we can all just sit around quietly denying life and being miserable for the dubious 'benefit' of the sanctimonious misguided masses of nay-saying judgemental religious zealots?! Let's petition the legislature into turning the United States into a theocracy! ;-)

Depends what you mean by the terms divorce and gay marriage. At one level your question is like asking whether starting to walk left leg first should be illegal. It isn't and why on earth should it be? We've made divorce mean the dissolution of a marriage so I guess thats OK since it's dependent upon the definition of marriage, but what the hell is gay marriage? All the marriages I've been to have been gay affairs with festivities to follow and blessings in the vein of be fruitfull and multiply. Which is what the act of marriage is about, I see no reason to make that gaiety illegal.
-
No, they should both be legal. I am very happy to say that in my country, they are both legal.
-
If you don't want to live in a free country I can give you some suggestions on where you should migrate to.
-
i agree with you in that divorce is too easy to obtain. american constitutional law forbids the country from endorsing any one form of religious beliefs. so, while it might be ok to make it much more difficult, impossible can often be wrong, especially for a woman physically abused or tortured or raped by hubby. . i choose to follow the teachings of jesus when he tells us to love everyone. forbidding marriage by one group doesn't seem fair to me. i had a gay professor married to another gay man for 50 years and they had a much better marriage than my own parents.
-
Yes. If the heterosexual couples are going to claim this union their own and base the argument for doing so on the sanctity of this holy bond then they should have to stay in their marriage until death do them part just like it says in those holy hetero vows. Gay marriage should be legal and EVERY married person should be pressuring their government to make this so.
-
Neither one should be illegal. People have very short life spans and should be entitled to happiness as long as they do not harm others. In addition, I would like to add that some of the laws concerning divorce should be modified so that there are no victims. I think often the way property gets split is unfair, because usually the one who works the most to earn it loses out.
-
It is only necessary to apply basic logic to these two situations. 1- Divorce is and should always be a legal option for couples that have come to realize that, for one reason or another, they no longer want to be married. . 2- The ONLY reason for the institution of marriage is to create a family unit to care for and raise children that are the normal and usual result of an intimate relationship. Gay same-sex marriage is a total misfit to logic and amounts to nothing more than a tax dodge. Any two people may freely choose to live together and avoid the expensive process of divorce when changing partners. . 3- Any person without the ability to understand #1 & #2 should be confined to some type of extended care institution for their own protection. . Now,,, could we move on to considering the normal and natural process of the earth's climate swings from ice age to global warming then back to another ice age, etc., etc., etc... ;~)
-
No and no. However, marriage should be difficult to attain, have a waiting period before approval and then be easy to end in divorce, imo.
-
If people had to stay married no matter what, perhaps they wouldn't rush into a relationship. My parents are 2 of the best parents anyone could have. A few months back they had some personal issues. I stayed out of this as much as possible. Anyway, I saw such a change in them. No touching, no eye contact between them, no holding hands and flirting. Because they BOTH are against divorce they stuck it out got over what ever was causing the strain on their marriage and I saw my dad give my mom a little pat on the behind last week end and she suddenly had a headache and went to their room, dad disappeard too. I took the dog for a LONG walk :):)

I personally think Marriage is between a Man and a Women So I do not agree with Gay Marriages, Divorce should be Legal, but shouldn't be a casual thing as the media propaganda it to be. If you look at the larger scale of Divorce and break Ups its a money making Scandal. Sadly! Majority fall prey to it.
-
Divorce is a free will issue unlike gay marriage. The definition of marriage makes it impossible for 2 persons of like sex to become married.
-
1 Divorce: No. If they agree to it, they should be able to divorce. 2 Gay Marriage: No. I just don't give a fuck anymore. I'm stright, but I don't have any problems with gays or gays wanting to get married to each other. All you other bastards who think gays are all strange and shit should just get a grip and realize that this is life.
