Can I use Goo-gone on a vinyl record? I have a record with a sticker on the play surface... what's the best way to remove it?

Do NOT use any such product on an LP. Nor should you use an alcohol-based cleaner. Begin by soaking the sticker area in distilled water until it releases or can be pulled off without scratching the record. Follow this up with a cleaning product and a good rinse in distilled water. It may take several cleaning passes to remove the adhesive from the record. There are a number of commercial cleaners on the market that do not contain alcohol (e.g., products from Record Research Labs or The Disc Doctor) that should work. In a pinch you can use a mild dish detergent diluted in distilled water (a few drops per litre), followed by a good rinse with distilled water.

WD-40 and a very soft cloth. . EDIT: Now, why would some pin head DR me for this? It works. It works well. It won't damage the vinyl record. What kind of problem could they have with this answer? I don't mind the DR, but I do mind being DR'd with no explanation about the reason for it. Please, if you feel it is necessary to DR, give some idea of why. Even if it is to tell me that you think I stink.
