My kids planted a red maple in the front of our house on fathers day many years ago. It's hugh, it's beautiful but messy. Their dads favorite tree!

False; yet as a kid and young adult I lived back East (NYC) and the trees were beautiful in the outskirts of NYC - yellow, orange red - incredible fall colors - maple trees included, of course, and they were indeed pretty - such a short time before the leaves would fall off, though. Out in L.A., there's nothing like that to see anymore, tho' I still prefer So. Cal. weather, and you can always get away to such locales where you can see fall colors. Anyway - my favorite is probably the elm, because it's so majestic and the branches are like arms that can be inviting/welcoming or else eerie depending on how they've grown!!...I have a large tree w/ a big trunk, in my front yard, but I don't know what it is, shame on me (I'm in a rental house). Sometime, I should ask the landlord - but who knows if he even knows??? It's nice for shade & I sit outside under it sometimes, altho' the weather where I am is pretty temperate/consistent (it doesn't often get too hot, even in summer months!).

Like the different colors that can be found on a Maple Tree.
-
Liquid Amber is a favourite of mine ~ more common here in NZ than maple, but similar in colour I would expect, in Autumn.
-
Red maple trees get more intense red in autumn. . It's the SUGAR MAPLE that has the beautiful multi-colored leaves. The more sugar in the sap the more intense and varied the color of the leaves in autumn.
