I listened to an interview with a very good footballer just before the game England played against Croatia. It is quite astounding how this man uses the phrase "you know" so skilfully. In the space of about 3 minutes, he managed to fit it in an incredible 24 times, without the slightest effort, you know' I mean?
-
Not ;you know'...but sometimes..'do you know what I mean'..
-
No. I am not a college or professional athlete.
-
i use that at least once a day
-
No I don't use the phrase but it drives me absolutely crazy when I hear it. I just so want to interrupt and say 'NO ... actually I DON'T know) LOL
-
Yes, I use it every now and then. +5
-
you mean like, as, you know, in conversation?...yeah, sometimes.
-
Why not?
-
Never. My teachers in elementary school would have thrown a book at me if I did.
-
I do, but it's usually when they know or if the kids are about and we're talking about presents or something, you know, so they don't cotton on.
-
Well...sometimes... you don't even realize you're say it...it just like...flows off the tongue...you know...?
-
Hilarious! I use that phrase all the time. Some people don't know what the heck you're talking about and you're still repeating to them "you know". +6
-
occasionaly, like you know, when it fits and stuff
-
Very popular here in Scotland as verbal fluff, along with "you know what I mean."
-
I used to say it constantly when I was younger. So much so that my boss told me to find a way to overcome it because it affected my professionalism. I also had a bad habit of saying "like" and waving my hands around like I was conducting an orchestra when I talked. I actually took a class to learn how to stop doing those habits!

I am very conscious of this phrase 'you know' and I will always endeavor not to use it. Sometimes this phrase will still slip out once in a while.
-
I dont normally but today i did my sentence was... You know the guy with the girl and the truck
-
I laughed when I saw the question. But I don't know who is worse, my mom or I, between the both of us we say it every other word we use. My mom's brotherr has said something to my mother, because they are always talking, and she always says it, so he's been saying to her, you know, just because she says it all the time and it drives him crazy. But I usually say it after almost everything i say in conversation.
-
since i was a child...even in spanish"me entedes?"...
-
sadly all the time! =]
-
I hate it when people use that phrase, you know?
