It was a Canadian named Nectocaris Pteryx. His ancestors were scavengers, who ate dead things, but Nectocaris decided that dead things to eat generally became more abundant if he killed them himself. He looked sort of like a slug, but was 100% aquatic. With an abundance of food, he had many children, whose descendants, 500+ million years later, are modern day squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish.
