Hey there. Gauges are the size of the guitar strings. Juts like body piercings (haha) there are different gauges, what that means is the thickness really. The most common size gauge for guitar is .009. Hope that helps :)

Try those Ernie Balls .10-.52 You won't regret it. Many metalcore bands use those.

Probably GHS Boomers Extra Light, Ernie Ball Super Slinkies, or D`Addario XL120. When you become a better player, you could get regular light strings instead of extra light and you will get more power from the bigger guage strings.
