Actually....if you think about it, there is no "present". The "present" is an illusion. As every second passes on...everything is part of the past. Just think about it: the moment you asked this question is part of the past. There is no present, all we have is history, the past, that could be one second ago, or thousands of years ago. The future.... we have no idea, so the only real moment we can count on is the past....the immediate past or the past we can hardly remember.

The phrase you mention is a very old Spanish saying "No dejes para mañana lo que puedes hacer hoy" translated to English "Don't leave for tomorrow what you can do today". Many years later E. Kant gave this old saying a philosophical meaning with the phrase you have stated which is supposed to mean: Yesterday are bygones, tomorrow we don’t know and there is no time like the present. In his work the Critique of Pure Reason he thoroughly explains the aesthetic philosophical meaning of the concept of time.
