I use cash for everything now as i have learned that companies that have access to your checking account can really screw things up.My experience with AOL for example, they were double billing me for several months, messing up my balance and causing me much grief.Credit cards are like throwing money in the garbage. There are inconviences using only cash, but it is still my preference.
-
debit cards .... i don't have to take the time to write out a check and i don't have to carry cash so if i'm mugged i don't loose too much and i can notify the bank
-
I use a debit card for everything.
-
Cash. Cards and checks I don't see the money physically leaving me, and probably wouldn't notice til the end of the month where I look at the bill with that look of horror...
-
I prefer cash, as it's a lot more painful to part with. But to build good credit I use a credit card to buy groceries.
-

For my bills I pay online, With everything else I use my Debit Card or Cash.
-
Depends what I am paying. Any day to day items or large items credit card which I pay off in total each month. Bill payment. Payment orders online direct from a bank account. They are the methods I find most convenient. Some Direct Debit.
-
Online I like credit cards. If it's a new place and I don't know much about them I might insist on calling them and placing a phone order.
-
I usually try to pay with monopoly money, but Wal-Mart is really hesitant when I try to give them a five hundred bill.

For paying: Credit card. I pay my bill off in full (and on time) and manage to get a bit cash-back. Also, it's the safest way for me to pay because I have zero liability, ability to chargeback, improved warranty coverage/free rental car insurance, etc. If I'm receiving payment, cold hard cash is best (as long as it isn't counterfeit. I don't like the fees associated with PayPal or the new scams with money orders/checks that don't show up until over a month after the check has (supposedly) cleared.

cash leaves no trace, is accepted everywhere, and is harder to physically part with so you are more likely to save money. downside: if you lose it or get mugged, you're screwed. it can be easily stolen, so you can't go around showing it off. it is also difficult to carry in large quantaties. nonetheless, i prefer this method because i know i'm spending money that i have, and when the transaction is done, i know whatever i bought is MINE and i don't owe anything to anyone. online, for large purchases, and for getting 'good credit,' or card benefits, credit cards are the way to go. another plus is that if they're stolen, you can call the bank and cancel the card. they're convenient and easy to carry, but you have to know who takes visa, mastercard, discover, amex, etc. downsides: your ID can be stolen, the credit card companies are hawks, can easily get into debt, you'll pay interest&fees&other unpleasant charges, and there's always that odd fear of the card being rejected. it's also important to always double-check what people are charging you, because there's a tendency to just not calculate that. checks...i really don't see anyone taking the time to write them out when at a store, but if paying in the mail, checks are commonplace.
-
i prefer to use my debt card, I will not own a credit card until i absolutely need one, checks take to long, and one does not need to carry a lot of cash.

Checks or cash..we are debt-free..if we use a charge card we pay it off immediately. :) However, we need to buy a car and we rent, we don't own..so it's not like we're rich or anything..we just don't like to bite off more than we can chew! :)
-
I prefer to pay with credit cards paying off the balance each month. That way I can collect the interest on the money in my account as long as possible and get either airline points or cash back for my charges. +5

I rarely carry cash, but I don't use credit cards much either. I only use those if I can pay them off within the next billing cycle. I prefer to use my debit card, which comes directly out of my account (in essence, this means I need to have the money already, or I don't buy the item(s)).
