I wouldn't buy one myself, BUT I would hang them if given them as a gift. The works aren't horrendous. As a gift, they would be displayed for some time in respect to the giver. Then, I'd probably donate it to a museum.

Well it is probably some museeums that bought it, the study of any historical men and their minds are always the subject of studies. Remember that this man, whoever he is and has done will stay in history until the end of time and so many wonder......... wonder why? What drove him to his crimes? What mind was behind it?

No, I already know how I felt going to a Holocaust Museum and I know I would feel that way just having the picture in the room even without looking at it. Creepy!

I am aware that Adolf Hitler hand painted a large number of picture post cards to make a living before he started the Nazi party and became its supremo. Many of these cards are still available. Mostly sketches of building and urban landscape of his time. They command a very high price as he had the practice of signing each one of the cards he drew. But I am not aware of any full size painting by Hitler. Maybe larger sketches of old Berlin in which he specialized. You must know that much as we may not want to hang even one of his painting's print reproduction in our drawing rooms, the originals do have a very high collector's value. The collector's will keep them in their private collection after properly insuring them. Mostly speculative purchases, for selling at a higher rate later.

no... any painting of value given to me would immediately be sold so I could hope to get my head above water. would you use medicine which was invented under the direction of hitler or spawned off research he commissioned? would you drive a car hitler had had a personal hand in creating? do you look down on people who drive VW beetles because hitler commissioned the car? without hitler we might not have jet engines today. if I had money out the wazoo, and he had done a piece of art I liked... why wouldn't I hang it? condemning his evil does not require you pretend his good did not exist.

I would rather have them copied onto plastic and then line the bottom of the toilet pan with them. Then at least once a day I could crap on a piece of Hitler.

Maybe if it was the painting of the guy who spared his life in WWI. I hear he was real fond of the guy and painted his portrait. A British soldier. To remind me that execution and death could've save potentially millions of lives.

I would not. Paintings evoque emotion...too much tragedy/evil associated with the artist..how can the art be separated from the creator ot that art? :(

Before becoming leader of Germany Hitler was an Artist unfortunatly he got refused and killed the world , he left paris intack because it is beautifull Im sure some of the paintings are nice but if it s a bunch of nazi simbols well the hell with them

I couldn't have anything related to evil like that in my house. If it were gifted to me, I would make sure I rightfully owned it. Upon confirmation of ownership, I would invite Jewish community leaders to my house and let them burn it while we toasted the millions lost in the Holocaust.

I would, he may have done some horrible things, but the guy wasnt stupid, he almost took over the world, and he has made his place in history. So i would just for the historic factors.

Nope, I don't think I could do that. I found the paintings themselves interesting though. They were pretty much devoid of people other than himself, in the one painting. In that painting, he was sitting on a bridge, wearing a brown uniform and staring at red water flowing beneath him. I wonder if he was already planning brown shirts and rivers running red with blood. I also found it interesting that he clearly found building lovely, but didn't put people in them. I wondered if he considered humans a stain on the landscape.

I'm more interested in what is on the art and not who painted/drew it. It's the art we appreciate. Hitler was despicable, but a pretty picture is just a pretty picture.

If it's good art, then yes. Although he did some really bad stuff, he was undoubtedly a very interesting person and intelligent to boot. The painting would make an interesting conversation piece.

As horrible as the man was, he was a truly amazing artist. So yes, I would. In fact, I would love to have one of his paintings. I love most of them, and would hang almost any one of them in my house (although my parents probably wouldn't let me).

I'm not a neo - Nazi, but art is just art regardless of who the painter was. So Hitler wasn't Mother Theresa, but he was a bloody good artist. Thanks for the link to snyderstreasures mrrw, it was fascinating.

Were it a gift, then surely I would. He is legend, if a twisted villain, like unto a storybook archnemesis. At best it would stir conversation and at worst controversy. Both are welcome to my home. Amazing all of the negative responses just because of the connection to Hitler. I wonder how many of these people enjoy time-and-a-half for overtime? This was Hitler's idea. And who hasn't traveled on an Interstate highway? The Interstate highway system that Eisenhower was given credit for was an idea he stole from Germany's Autobahn. Hitler artwork may be disdained by most people who carry perceived hate for him, but the value of his works fetch in the neighborhood of hundreds of thousands of dollars. I'd hang one in my house.

It should be possible to separate the artist and the art but the magnitude of the artist's crimes can make this difficult. In the case of Hitler it would have to be a very good painting to hang on my wall.

No. I'd sell it. I studied art history formally, as did my husband, and we own a small but high-quality art collection. Hitler was a mediocre artist. We wouldn't hang him even if he HADN'T been who he was. The fact that my husband is Jewish would, of course, influence our decision.
