  • Because Mary was conceived immaculately and was born without Original Sin.
  • Well she did mother Jesus. I know there is more to it, Just read MisterKnowItAll's answer.
  • Mary had to be a strong woman in her faith, for God to choose her,but no she has no favor in Gods eyes to take our prayer to him.How do i know this?Cause the bible says Jesus is the only mediator.
  • Thats right, they ignore the bible when it says there is one mediator between man and God,the man Christ Jesus. They do that with the pope aswell.I don't need anyone to take my prayer to God for me i have Jesus for that.Show me where it says to pray to Mary or the pope.
  • I have no answer as to why. And whatever we believe in should be mentioned in the bible. It is the book that will be opened at the last day. It is the bible we are to live by. The word catholic is not even mentioned in the bible as are a few words we use in our religious views.
  • Jesus saved us? Oh, cool! When and from what, did he save us?
  • the attention is God's as Jesus showed...the Saviour, for there is but 1, is God...which was Jesus, by HIS POWER,the Holy Spirit, which is God too.HIS POWER.....1 God , 1 Saviour,1 Power, and they are all God HIMSELF!!! to deny who these are,is to deny God Himself as our only Saviour==the Holy Spirit is simply HIS POWER , to send HELP and COMFORT to HIS.....God can do anything,be anything..HE HAS THE POWER TO DO SO....Mary was a righteous servant ,and nothing more...human but a sinner, as all God's other chosen servants....Elisabeth, Apostles, Moses, David, Abigail, Samuel and on and on...HE chose them because they were righteous(not perfect) in HIS eyes....as Mary was.....the Mediator , God's HELPER ,God's Power ,is the Holy Spirit= this helper intercedes our prayers... God saved US..therefore , HE is the Savior,Jesus , the Power ,Holy Spirit...and u can't come to HIM with denials of any of these....only THROUGH belief in all 3, HIM.....the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit are ONE=God, Jehovah..... catholics believe in "immaculate conception"=the belief that in order to give birth to PERFECT, she had to be PERFECT....could not be a righteous virgin chosen, as the Bible teaches.....so they revere Mary as perfect and holy.....which she was not ..we know nothing of her after HE honored her from the cross....because it was not important to know..she did God's Will and was honored to be chosen to do so, as no woman will ever be again...she deserves no more reverance or elevation than Eve=the mother of man..read the fine lines, they aren't hidden, just have to SEE and want to SEE..:)justme
  • History and religion both have learner not to over look or take for granted the strong women that built these men.
  • I can't think of any reason except Mary was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus.
  • We do give Jesus more attion, people just can't see that, the whoe massis decated to Jesus. We veiw Mary as our mother, because she was Jesus mother.
  • Mary is *revered* and *venerated* as the mother of Jesus. Jesus is *worshipped* as the son of Yahweh or Yahweh incarnate. What's yer beef? Aside from the arguments of the Catholic-bashers, I mean.
  • I know how dare they. Lets burn a church down to show them who's boss. ???????
  • Jesus is the focus of Catholicism, and Mary is honored as his mother, yes, but also because she was the ideal of a disciple - one who gave God an unconditional yes; she submitted to his will without reservation when she said "let it be unto me according to your word" when the angel announced to her that she would bear the Son of God (Luke 1).
  • Hey- I 'm no Catholic but I have a lot of respect for their faith. Mary had to be pretty special to be chosen out of all the women on earth EVER to be the Mother of Jesus. I think Protestants miss out on how special a Saint she is.
  • Women are neglected by all the Patriarchal religions. So don't knock the exception.
  • Don't know the bible much, but she became a mother and remained a virgin. Mary is revered because it is politically correct. This way, the Catholic women would have somebody to look up to instead of those pedophile priests.
  • I believe it is yet another belief adopted by the Catholic Church in its assimilation of the Pagan peoples of Europe. Most of those Pagans had a Mother Goddess whom they highly revered so, to ease in their conversion, the Church emphasized the role of Mary or even told them that Mary is who they had been worshipping all along. I'm sure the idea just kind of stuck and morphed into what it is today.
  • Non-Catholics seem to exaggerate the importance of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Catholic Church a bit. Mary is the most important saint but she is still just a human being. The Blessed Virgin Mary is important to Catholics because the Bible says she is important to God. • Mary is the handmaid of the Lord (Luke 1:38), a servant of God just like us. • Mary was the first Christian. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while He was still in her womb. All other Christians follow her on the road of faith. She is the model for all of us because she actively cooperated with the Will of God by saying "Yes" to God in the plan of salvation. • Mary is the model of faith. Mary's faith never wavered throughout Jesus' life, even while watching him die on the cross when most of the Apostles ran away. • Mary is full of grace. The angel Gabriel called her, "Full of grace" and said, "The Lord is with you." She is full of grace at that moment; the Lord is with her at that moment, before she says "yes" to the angel's question. Catholics believe the state of grace was with her since her Immaculate Conception. God prepared her for her later role as the mother of Jesus. • Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, of God the Son. • Mary is a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, a tabernacle. The angel Gabriel says to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow." (Luke 1:35) • God praised Mary through His messenger, the angel Gabriel, "Rejoice, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you." If God and his angels praise Mary, shouldn't we? • Jesus honored Mary. Jesus kept the Commandments and did not sin. Jesus fulfilled the Commandment to honor both his father and his mother. WWJD? What would Jesus do? Jesus would and did honor Mary, his mother. • The Holy Spirit inspired praises of Mary. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women," and "Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." (Luke 1:41-45) • The Scriptures tell of Mary's place with Jesus. Mary gives birth to Jesus, presents him to the shepherds, to the wise men, to God in the Temple. She lived with him for many years in Nazareth, intercedes with Jesus in Cana, suffers with him at the foot of the Cross, and prays to him with the apostles in the Upper Room. • Mary was a prophet. "Behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me." (Luke 1:48-49) As Christians who believe the Bible, we must call Mary "blessed." A question for Christians who take the Bible literally: Do you call Mary "blessed"? If not, why? • Mary is our Mother too. While he was on the Cross, Jesus said to his beloved disciple (who represents all Christians), "this is your mother." (John 19:27) For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 484 and following: http://www.nccbuscc.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt2art3p2.shtml With love in Christ.
