My personal favourite is Slash's guitar solo in November Rain by Guns N Roses.
-
There are some pretty creative drawn-out guitar bits in Neil Young's songs "Change Your Mind" and "Cowgirl in the Sand". Also, "Gun" by John Cale features an obscure guitar work-out.
-
Tie: song: Reelin' In the Years guitarist: Elliot Randall band: Steely Dan album: Can't Buy a Thrill song: Stairway to Heaven guitarist: Jimmy Page band: Led Zeppelin album: Led Zeppelin IV

I personally like the one in Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits, towards the end. Either that or Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns'n'Roses. EDIT - just founds this link which is a readers poll of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos by readers of Guitar World, the number one being Stairway to Heaven - Led Zep. I can't hear this one in my head, don't remember how it goes. http://guitar.about.com/library/bl100greatest.htm

I would say it is in "Angel of Death" by Slayer, not sure which of the guitarists actually played it though. I'm also very partial to the last couple of minutes of "Alive" by Pearl Jam...
-
Dragonforce holds the torch for the best solos, and duels, Its hard to pick just one song, but the whole album Inhuman Rampage is rad to the bone, and if i were to pick a single song it'd be Through The Fire And Flames.
-
I'll never forget- I was a little girl [WAY young], and Mason Williams was on the Ed Sullivan Show. Classical Gas. Played awhile, then an ENTIRE ORCHESTRA burst into it, then he ended it quietly again. FAVORITE!

-
Bon Jovi "Dry County"

Gosh, there are so many. Quite a few of Frank Zappa's; maybe the one on the live version of Stevie's Spanking would be the best. I also like bands who mocked the very idea of a guitar solo; the Buzzcocks' song What Do I Get has a marvellously ironic plodding solo that is a joy to behold. Good question; bet it's a duplicate though.
-
Mine is at the end of "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns N' Roses
-
"Classical Gas", by Mason Williams.

Extremely difficult to say: Some of my favorites are: David Gilmour (Pink Floyd): "Comfortably Numb" Steve Vai (Solo): "For the Love of God" Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits): "Sultans of Swing" Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest): "Beyond the realms of Death" Slash (Guns 'N Roses): "November Rain"

BRIAN MAY...BRIGHTON ROCK
-
IN hawk nelson the song california.
-
I have not heard very many live, but live guitar solos are the most incredible thing to experiance. - The best solo from an album.... My god that is hard to judge there are so many good solos I have heard. Arch enemy have done some amazing solos in their time, as have many more famous artists. Even the Eagles in Hotel California has an amazingly long solo section towards the end. I would probably more judge a solo on its technicality, and fitting to the song, not just chucked in there.
-
Little Wing..............Jimi Hendrix
-
I love Eric Clapton's Layla. I dont think even Hendrix beat Clapton for playing.
-
"Flying in a Blue Dream" Joe Satriani. The video is live in San Francisco. Takes a few to get going, but once it does, the music ROCKS.
-
I like Tony Peluso's guitar solo, at the end of The Carpenters' 'Goodbye to Love.' Excellent!

-
Slash's guitar solo in November Rain by Guns 'n' Roses.
-
The solo from "Dreamer Deceiver" by Judas Priest from their album "Sad Wings of Destiny"

Let me preface this answer that I do not approve of the bizach policies that Metallic has taken but they are among on e of the best rifsters I have ever heard. One has truly gained legendary status. Who cannot forget the riffs when the song heats up.

Just a few off the top of my head: Gary Hoey - The Deep (Endless Summer II soundtrack) Joe Satriani - Home (about 1:10 - 1:20 gives me goosebumps) Ted Nugent - Stranglehold Zack Kekona - Life Seems So Hard Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits - Ride Across the River Led Zeppelin - No Quarter 2 Much 2 List.... . . .
-

-
This is the first thing that I have heard from them that I have liked. The video is rather strange and reminiscent of parts of Pink Floyd Dark side video sequences. A dark message is that what the song is all about?
-
I hate to say this, because I'm a music snob, but I've played Vice City to death and I don't think anyone could top Bark at the Moon by Ozzy Osbourne.
-
Lick - Layla. Guitar track - Stairway to Heaven.
-
Dimebag Darrell of Pantera in Floods .
-
So many players, um The one that leaps to the front for me is Mark Knopfler in Dire Straits. His licks are so tasty, his solos are always just right, whether for movies or single songs. Sultans of Swing is great. I'll never forget how it effected me the first time I heard it. When I hear Romeo and Juliet I have to stop and listen, each time. But I also remember hearing live Dave Mason play All Along the Watchtower, acoustic guitar, AWESOME!

-
Slash's intro to Sweet Child O' Mine (I know it' not HIS favorite, but...)
-
For blazing, unwavering speed combined with brilliance of technique and expression I guess for me it's a tie. The first one is Eric Clapton's run on his collab with John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band on "Yer Blues" at Toronto in 1969. The other one is Alvin Lee's opening run on "Going Home" at Woodstock in 1969.

that changes, and I haven't listened to too many guitar solos recently. I like Frank Zappa's Inca Roads pretty much.

Personally, I think Cream's version of "Crossroads" is pretty god damn amazing, solo-wise. Another one that always blows me away is Skunk Baxter's solo in "Rikki Don't Lose That Number". It's just deliciously perfect, and there have been more than a few occasions when it has actually brought tears to my eyes with it's elegance.
-
Gary Moore's "End of the World" is pretty notable along with Triumph's "When the Lights Go Down."
