leave it on until it runs out of power, it probably froze, that happened to me, but...you probably already know this by now.

Keep the pause/stop button pressed for a couple of seconds. It will work. If it doesnt then reinstall the software through iPod/iTune software update.

I had this happen a couple times. Do a hard reset. You can do this by pressing and holding the Center and Menu buttons (at the same time) for 6 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears. It will reboot, then it should be able to shut of normally

Hi, try to force restart the iPod. Or let the device run out of power and it should shut off. If no use, an iOS repair tool like TunesKit can help you fix iPod won't turn off. https://www.tuneskit.com/ios-system-recovery-for-mac.html
