I don't know about selling, but recording can be any price. Nirvana's first cost 600 dollars for instance, and bands like the White Stripes have had platinum success with albums costing 3000, and then there are ones which have run into the millions such as Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy which has been estimated at 13 million. It is easier nowadays as many can record one in their bedroom with a cheap laptop and some cheap equipment.
