The "shank" is a shot off the hosel of the club that squirts off to the side; it is a horrible miss. The "yips" are involuntary small jerkings of the hands or wrists that really mess up your putting stroke.
-
Shit.... I missed the ball.
-
The "honors" is the privilege of teeing off first on the next hole because you got the lowest score on the previous hole. "Stymie" is when you are right behind a tree and cannot make a shot.
-
Mother f***er! i missed again.....
-
The "fringe" is the three foot wide strip of grass around the perimeter of the green. It is mown longer than the green but shorter than the fairway. You are not technically "on the green" when you are on the fringe, but you are very close. You usually use your putter off the fringe. The "rough" is the longer grass to either side of the fairway. When you miss the fairway, you are penalized by having to play from the rough, which makes striking the ball more difficult.
-
Dormie (also spelled "dormy") is a term used in match play golf, denoting that the score is such that one player (or team) is the same number of holes ahead as there are still to play; thus that should one hole be halved, that leading player will win the match. (from wikipedia, I had to look this one up)

We're not supposed to use that kind of language on here.

A "divot" is the piece of turf/grass cut out of the ground during the hitting of the ball. It is courtesy to "replace your divot" or repair it with sand so the next guy won't have to hit his shot out of a hole.
-
When I play? "Damn it" seems to be heard frequently.

Other than profanity, the "Beach", which is slang for the sandtrap. Nobody wants to be on that beach. It's such a "beach" to be there....you might hear thing like, "it was the f%&kin beach for me all day" or "I was doin fine until I had to spend time on the beach on 17"

I'm trying to think of ones that haven't been used lately: Medal play(=stroke play; total score for the round counts.) Ace (=hole in one) Double eagle(=albatross, completing a hole in 3 strokes under par) the 19th hole: a metaphor for the bar in the pro shop; the bar is implicitly compared with a watering hole for wildebeests and other African herbivores. Snowman: a score of 8 on a golf hole; suffice it to say that's a result you _don't_ want. Tiger slam: winning four consecutive major tournaments in a sport, but NOT in the same calendar year. (Tiger Woods achieved this feat by winning the last three major tournaments of 2000 and the first major tournament--The Masters--in 2001). Words used at match play: to be dormie: to be X number of holes up (ahead) with X number of holes left; you can win the match by halving (tying your opponent on) any one of the remaining holes when you are dormie. X and Y (with X greater than Y): the result of a golf game played at match play; the winner is X holes up (ahead) with Y holes left to play. The match automatically ends when such a result is achieved. X up: If the match lasts for the regulation number of holes, the winner is X up. If extra holes are required to determine a winner, the total number of holes played is specified. An obsolete word in golf: Stymie: a situation on the green where the direct line between your ball and the hole is blocked by an opponent's golf ball further than six inches away from your own ball. The rule in individual match play until 1952 was that the opponent's ball did not have to be marked in such a situation; further, you could not touch the opponent's ball during your putt on penalty of losing the hole. Today, the golfer who is away is allowed to resolve the stymie in one of two ways: 1) Order the opponent to mark his ball, or 2) Order the opponent to complete the hole. Either command is binding on the opponent.

One hole, well done. Cause that's what we do to your ladies when you and your buddies are doing 18, or 19 holes. (not original - a paraphrase of an old joke). Golf is a three mile hike through nature ruined by a little white ball.
-
"Cheeks" or "Chunks" when you hit a runner. "Flop" when you pop the ball. "Cream Cheese" when you smack a drive.
