  • sound like a loose wire or a corroded ground connection
  • Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer. I have a 1999 Malibu and am on my second horn (replaced in April 2006), which is also now not working. I believe these horns were defective to begin with, but Chevy is playing dumb about it. A new horn costs over $400.00. Are we supposed to buy a new horn for $400.00 every two years or so? I'll be seeing my dealer again on Jan. 5th and am prepared to do battle if necessary to either get it fixed or replaced again - at no cost to me. This is not a remote problem; my neighbor has a 1998 Malibu and the horn just works occasionally. Good luck to you.
  • I have a '98 Malibu that the horn wouldn't actually quit blowing. I had the horn relay replaced about 18 months ago. It went occurred again within a year. I replaced the relay once more and it still didn't solve the problem. Took it in for a diagnostic and found that the button is permanently pressed down. The problem is that the button is within the airbag compartment. So now I am attempting to replace the horn with a horn button kit for about $8.00 instead of spening $800.
  • maybe you should take it to a mechanic and have them check it out
