It's kind of hard to tell what the problem is without seeing it or knowing what exactly was unhooked. It's been a while since I've worked on a DSM so hang with me. It can be a variety of things but the first thing that comes to my mind is an air leak. If there's a leak in the piping between the turbocharger and the MAF Sensor on the air filter assembly it won't be able to read the correct amount of air that is going into your engine. If it is a bad leak then it will run extremely rich, puff out black smoke, run like garbage and set the ECU into limp mode. Actually, any major leak in the charge piping (piping from the turbo to the intake) can cause this as well. www.DSMTuners.com is an awesome resource that I would take a look at.
