Well, not that much but more than Xbox and the PS3. You basically play a sport or a game with a controller. Like you swing in a golf game and you would lose some weight but you could also get injuries you get in sports.
-
You can lose weight while sleeping, as long as you don't eat. I wouldn't call it a workout, but it does burn off more calories than just watching TV.
-
I'm sure more than playing the other video game systems
-
Sure you can, if your moving around a lot, getting your heart rate up, but doing that must also combine a healthy diet as always and Im sure you could drop a couple pounds; it's definately better than sitting at the computer typing I'd say.
-
Well, I Wouldn't Of Thought So Because Its Not Like The PS2 Where You Can Get Dance Games With Calorie Burner On It.
-
sure if you work hard-well, i owuldn't call it work cause it is fun!
-
Maybe but you'd need to be playing for a few hours at a time and getting really engrossed in the games!! And, if you're eating junk food in between, chances are ur not going to make much progress!!
-
I dont know about the Nintendo but Ive lost a couple due to answerbag. I get so involved I dont eat..or use the bathroom..or clean the house. The list goes on.
-
Sure you can. My sister ion law just got a Wii and has lost almost 5 pounds boxing on Wii sports. Of course she dosent eat much or do anthing else. Im actually kind of worried...
-
To lose weight you gotta burn more calories than you consume, and the wii does make you move (atleast your arms) alot but it would take a hearty daily useage and time to make any real weight loss.
-
G'day Adidas Chris, Thank you for your question. Yes you could if you don't eat or ride an exercise bike while doing so. However, many experts attribute the increase of childhood obesity to many kids playing computer games and watching TV rather than exercising. You need to make sure that you exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet to lose weight. by using exergaming which combines exercise and computer games, you may be able to do both. I understand that there is a game called Kinetic designed for the Wii which may enable to exercise while gaming. I have attached sources for your reference. My friend used that excuse to get his mum buy him one. I don't think so, its only a little running and moving here and there.
-
I guess you could but I would think of other ways. Playing for hours trying to being healthier will destroy your eyes and wrists along with losing a couple pounds. However, it is fun so play it for that reason and no to lose weight.
-
No... really it will never make a real difference... you will only lose some calories... but if you play games like dance dance revolution yes you can!
-
yup but veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slowly
-
Someone played Wii sports (Boxing) for about 30 minutes a day for 4 weeks and lost 9 pounds. ...Sadly, I don't have the article handy.
-
I'll be honest. I've lost 35lbs, since I've had the Wii, though I did change my diet, I do have to think the hour a day I spend with Wii Sports has helped.
-
Ive heard that people have lost uo to 5 lbs playing it i dont know how long it took but thats what ive heard
-
Considering that you are burning calories just by standing, in theory I would say, "yes" (so long as you're also steering clear of the Twinkies and Ding Dongs).
-
i depends on what type of game you play like if you play games like wii sports: boxing you mite loss some lbs and it depends if you reely get in to it and like stand up and akt like your reely boxing, bowling, swinging a sword around, or watever your doing/playing.
-
Yeah if you stop eating
-
If you play like the spazz actors they show in their advertising, than yes.
-
I heard that a guy lost couple of pounds intentionally doing Boxing in Wii Sports. It will give you a sort of aerobic workout if you play it seriously.
-
i read about a couple that loss 20 pounds each plays took 6 months though
-
Use your common sense. Obviously you're not going to lose weight playing with the Wii "normally", but if you do Wii Sports 5 hours a day, it's likely.
-
Yes, you can. If you play long enough. It really depends on what you're playing. If you're playing Metroid of Zelda, you'll probably lose 10 calories. If you get the upcoming game, Wiifit using the balance board, you'll probably lose a few pounds with prolonged use :)
-
sure you can,on the wii fit
-
depends on the game I guess lol, one that has more movement in it would probably loose you more weight...
-
Yeah I recon you could lose a few pounds on the Wii, I played boxing with my friend the other day, and I was heaps tired by the end of it. You would have to really get into it though.
-
well ive read it somewhere that some real gamer got into it and hardly quite and lost like over 30 lbs before something bad happened to his eyes from not stopping and resting
-
I've played it a few times at a friend's house (one of these days I'll get one), and I worked up quite a sweat! I've heard a lot of people say it's great exercise and you can lose some weight...and I sure can see how!
-
I don't see why it doesn't work for me.
-
wii Fit? hell no! Only way you will lose weight is by not sleeping, not eating, not drinking and playing and self-consuming by playing for days and nights on end. That's the only way i see...
-
Definetly possible. I got down doing the boxing with my kids (hysterical to watch btw) and I was tired and out of breathe like I'd actually done 8 rounds. I can't wait 'till wiifit comes out!
-
Well you could burn calories playing Wii. Thats is you actually stand up and play the game right.
-
Yes, and that is why nintendo chose to have the nunchuck and such for the wii. They want everyone to get up and play and have fun without eating and getting fat on couches. It works too, as the more you like a game, the more you play, and the more you play and enjoy it, the less you eat, and the more you exercise, and it is dang hard to play wii sitting down.
-
absolutely yes:)
-
I don't think you can.
-
It's highly doubtful. Once Wii Fit comes out, you could probably lose weight.
-
they are going to make a new game for the wii called wii fitness and its this motion sensor pad you put on the floor and it it follows your every movement..it also records your weight. it teaches u dance, yoga, etc. it's really cool!
-
i don't know about losing weight, but i've managed to pull a few muscles, mario and sonic at the olympics love it wicked fun.
-
Yes. I guess someone disconnected their arm out of its socket playing the Wii. So I figure it you take it one step forward and actually fling your arm right off, thats gotta be at least 10 pounds right there.
-
Yes because when you're playing you should be standing up And working out!
-
Technically, it is the most phyisically active gaming system ever made. So, if u r moving around a lot and sweating, u could lose weight.
-
You can. But don't count on it to lose much, it only helps to lose a little.
-
I'm sure you could if you played hard enough. :P
-
My kids could... they do not stop long enough to eat... Could that be a problem.
-
I think you could if you played sports like boxing instead of playing regular video games. I would never substitute the Wii for regular exercise however. On a side note, the first time I tried boxing against a friend, my football teammate and I were sore for 3 days. One of my other friends just played against the computer and was not sore at all, so intensity also makes a difference.
-
no, because you only really move the hands and wrists. all ull get is carpal tunnel syndrome. or mad bad hand cramps
-
It depends on what you're playing. As long as it involves a lot of movement, then yes.
-
no, you cant. the only game that may allow weight loss is wii boxing but even then there are ways to move the char. without doing alot of physical movement. other games like zelda metroid and fps's all require simple hand gestures
-
no, you cant. the only game that may allow weight loss is wii boxing but even then there are ways to move the char. without doing alot of physical movement. other games like zelda metroid and fps's all require simple hand gestures
-
I just heard a while back that standing up for thirty minutes a day does more for you than if you were to run a couple times a week. So if you're playing one of the games where you stand up and really get involved in the game, like wii sports, I definatly think it might be helpful.
-
As people have said, it is possible. It depends entirely on the game you play. You're not gonna shed pounds with Mario, Zelda, or Metroid. But with Wii Fit, Wii Sports, and other games, it's possible. Wii Fit is actually winning quite a few technical achievement awards (and averages an 8.1 from critics) for actually working and being fun.
-
Yep!! I borrowed a Wii for the release of the best series ever: MarioKart! I played it solidly and as some of the other answers suggest - didn't focus on eating as much as usual. I made a concerted effort not to eat crap and lost a couple of pounds even though I barely left the house! Rockin!
-
Hm... I don't know about losing weight, but it seems that playing too much super smash bro's brawl increases your grip strength... or.. that just might be me ;)
-
I think you can,You would need to be playing for a long time, and actually moving around I just sit down and move my hands when i play.
-
yes. nicole richie did.
-
So the new technology and latest games say. We'll see.
-
Well yes and no. Weight loss is a tricky thing. If you exercise but do not diet you’ll get fit but the weight isn't lost. But eating one burger instead of two and playing an active movement game on Wii will surely make you lose a size or two...
-
my ex gf has a Wii fit and gets a real good workout.
-
Yes you can lose weight (or at least lower your Body mass index). It has been proven in the official nintendo magazine, a woman did a 15-day workout programe with Wii Sports and lowered her BMI signifficantly.
-
YES!
-
yes...you can lose weight.....it really is a great system...I use it when i start to work out sometimes (Warm up) and now i heard the Wii Fit is coming out and its a great way to have fun and to exercise at the same time
-
I dont know if you could lose weight with the wii itself you may be able to improve your strength the wii fit probalby would be better for losing weight
-
Yes I Can, I'm Losing it since I started playing it It's a great console I read the British study about Wii that people won't lose so much but I did. Good Luck
-
if you play wii sports and really get into it and start playing like crazy then you can definetly lose weight.
-
yes mostly on the wii fit
-
If you paly it a lot each day. Oh, and only paly active games such as Wii-fit, Wii-SPorts and DDR: Hottest party.
-
I'm sure you could if you play the right games and move around enough while doing it.
-
Yes you can if you buy the Wii Fit you can loose weight!
-
It depends on the game you're playing. Some make you really move around, some don't. Wii Fit is a great one for losing weight because it actually has you exercising.
-
Probably if you play the games with a lot of physical movement involved.
-
Latest reports say that using a Wii you can shed 27lb a year. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6376637.stm
-
Yeah its been proven if you play enough hours really hard, you can lose weight on Wii Sports or Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, and my mate does it for his morning work out :P
-
i think playing with wii is a good way to lose weight, everytime after playing wil, i feel tire as doing some real sports.
-
get wii fit. it makes you fit.
-
They have a new device called the Wii-fit. It's actual purpose is to keep you fit and help you lose weight! Unfortunately it is quite pricey and would only recommend it if you want to commit to it. I believe if you often play regular Wii sports it can also have positive effects, just not a drastic as the Wii Fit.
-
yes, I lost a total of 5 pounds in two weeks of playing. I was also on my treadmill and it was part of my workout. Its just like doing exercises on the TV.
-
i'm sure there's better ways to lose weight.
-
Yes you can.
-
yes!!!!!!!!!!! when we first got ours and started playing it I ws doing like he boxing and stuff and I was sore!!! I can't say that I 've lost weight but we just got that wii fit system so maybe that will help
-
I GUESS ...............
-
technically, you burn calories doing pretty much anything. losing weight means that you are playing more Nintendo than you are eating. It is all about calorie intake. But in general, I don't think people think associate losing weight and Nintendo all that often. Typically it is judged based on the graphics, how many people can play, etc...http://www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc... which also burn calories.
-
yes definitely the best game to lose weight to is Dance Dance Revolution lost 30 lbs playing that. Doesnt matter which system as long as it's available for it. Try it, it's so much fun!
-
yeah the boxing game = 220kcal an hour
-
Yes, games such as Sonic and Mario the olympic games can make your weight lesser!
-
Sure more so than you will with other video games. Get Wii fit. That will get ya moving.
-
i think ya can! especially if ya have the wii fit! but then it does depends wat game you go on, like sports will help you lose weight coz on things like boxing you have to move loads, and tennis! the wii fit is the best from soo far for me! but then again you wud have to go on it daily for it to work properly other wise you may fail AND it keeps a recod for ya n gives ya a deadline etc...if you really want to loose weight then the wii fit really helps you to be determined to do it! i would recommend it anyway! :D x
-
Yeah, I'm sure you have the big ass to prove that theory
-
You don't necesarily lose weight. It's pretty much just a "healthier" alternative. just as many Wii games are sitting on the couch twidling your thumbs, but the whole Wii Fit thing and stuff can get you a little sweaty at times but its really not as good as doing 20 pushups and 50 sit ups a day. I'd get a PS3 and take 20 minutes a day to workout :P
-
My neighbors have the Wii and it's okay and all. The thing is, their mother is overweight and she basically only bought it to "lose" weight. I'm assuming there are a lot more people than her that have fallen victim to the Wii in this sort of way. Anyway, what I'm getting at is I've never seen her play the damn thing. What the hell? And sure, her son does play, but it's not even necessary to stand up to play the Wii. I, for one, find it easier to play while sitting down. I would highly advise that people do not get the Wii to lose weight. Try the outdoors.
-
WiiFit. Lost 10 lbs. Try it. Also... you can seriously get a work out in like boxing sometimes...
-
Definitely, I consider my self pretty fit, but when I went to a friends house and played his wii fit game, I almost died on the arobics thing(don't laugh untill you have tried it).
-
in three months using the wii fit i have gone down a dress size and lost about 10lbs.i haven't changed what i eat just using the wii fit.
-
dependz on wat game u play. if u play a game wher u just sit around, then no. if u play a game that involvez movin' 'round, then ya!
-
If you get so involved and forget to eat then yes you will probably lose weight.
-
if its a wii fit, then ur most likely to. but on top of that, u need to burn more calories than u eat to actually lose the weight.
-
The nintendo wii can't even compare to real exercise, personally I think it's just a gimmik.
-
yepp u can on the wii fit board, it keeps u addicted and actually helps u keep fit its gr8!
