I have realtek HD sound card on my computer, digital RCA output set for 7.1, and I have a 7.1 receiver and speakers. When I run a test on my computer, why can't I hear the rear, side, center, and subwoofer channels on my speakers? This is so annoying!

use the digital/7.1 output, not the analog L/R output.

Is the receiver set for 7.1 sound? Do you have the RCA cables going to a digital input or a stereo input?

go to control panel click on sounds and audio devices look at bottom when it open see pic of speaker and a button that says advanced, click it choose from the drop down list your speaker type(in your case 7.1, click apply and OK make sure speaker volume is set on high click other advanced button and make sure the mute is unchecked this should get you set up, just make sure all the speaker jacks are plugged in back of PC in right color coded jacks
