How about a Supreme Being creating the Universe using many processes including the Big Bang?

My own thought - the big bang. But a more important question to me is "Why?" If there is a supreme being then why create a whole universe just for our edification? It would be vain, in this instance, to think of ourselves as the only experiment in the petrie dish. So believing in God increases the chances of there being other intelligent lifeforms elsewhere. If there is no supreme being then why have a universe at all? Matter does not increase or decrease in size, and energy (overall) is constant with entropy tending to zero. In these circumstances I have to ask what came before the universe and what will there be afterwards? In a continuum, where time as we perceive it is meaningless, can there be existence without point, or are we just a freak chance. How many accidents had to happen for us to exist through scientific probabilities? So, while I am inclined against believing, personally, in any supreme being, I also want a justification as to why the universe exists without purpose. And for any budding scientists "It just does" means "Take it on faith", which brings us back to religion.

E=Mc2 Nothing is ever lost - matter to energy and energy to matter - eternally. Science does not ever try to explain absolute beginnings (Abiogenesis). It does pick up after the first minuscule fractions of the first second and follows the process through from there.

Theoretically, who lit the fuse? Before the Big Bang did matter even exist? ADDITION: These are questions. Don't you have any theories? What was the state of the universe before the big bang? If there was a bang, wasn't there a "before"?

I believe it was God. Maybe He got some of it started with a bang, but I find it very hard to believe that all the wonderous miracles in nature just came about as a result of a big bang. People can say what they will (myself included), different people have different theories and beliefs, but no one REALLY knows for certain.

How the universe started is definitely a tough question, but there may be a good answer out there somewhere. But when you say a "god" did it it raises even more questions and complicates the scenario exponentially. How did god get there? If someone is gonna use the argument energy had to start somewhere so the universe definitely has a intelligent designer, you have to use that same argument ON the intelligent designer. but of course there's a simple argument any theist will use at this point: "he is all powerful" ya... I'd rather find and ponder real answers than satisfy my personal beliefs. Regardless of comforting the idea may be.

Scientist can recreate the events that occured at the big bang 100th of a millisecond just before it, they to this day have never established what happened at the onset of it. Theory's continue in physics, from big bang's being the result of larger, theoretical "White Hole"s at their death, creating a "birth" of a new universe, or a "Multiverse" were "big bangs" are commen place, and happen all the time in our vast "Cosmic Landscape" inside a "Multiverse" . We'll one day know how the universe began, perhaps far in the future be able to recreate and create one ourself's, it's not that outlandish considering the technology we discover is forever amazing.

the way i understand it is this...the "big bang" was the beginning of the physical universe...kabbalah teaches the most sensible "pre-big bang" theory that i know of..."in the beginning was nothing; nothingness became endless; then nothingness became aware of itself"... so, to me, whatever energy or thought-form was originally "nowhere" became aware, and thus the physical universe began with the big bang...billions of years later people try to understand that in simplest terms, and call that original energy "god"...

The 'big bang' occurred because the mass of something increased so much it exploded (similar to a Super Nova but trillions of times stronger). For those that say there is no God and the 'Big Bang' started everything, then I ask "Where did that particle come from that started the 'Big Bang'?"

There is proof and scripture that He exists. We all have the same amount of fingers, toes, body parts in the same spot, etc.. The Bible tells us things that happened, are happening and will happen. And so far it has been correct with no doubt in my mind. God exists, period.

The Big Bang did not create the universe: it's merely a description of how it began. Saying that it created the universe is like saying you were created by screaming, scrawny, blood & bile covered, 5-14 lbs infant. As a matter of logic, either "the world" (meaning the entire natural order) always existed from eternity past, or, if it had a beginning, it had to have been created from something outside of and prior to itself, since there is no effect without a cause. Current cosmology holds that the natural order itself came into being at the Big Bang, meaning that there must be something beyond the natural order that brought it about - but that does not necessitate a personal God as a creator: it could be simply a higher (or substructural) order. But whatever it is, it is outside the observable universe/natural order that it created/spawned.
