Why do ants and worms come out on the sidewalk after it rains?

Because their homes (burrows)are now flooded and they would rather not drown.

Because they know there won't be a kid with a magnifying glass to burn them.

Although ants float and can live on top of water (at least for a while), they can't live under water. Worms are the same. There are probably a few exceptions for each, just as there are some flying ants, but for the most common ants and worms, they need at least small pockets of air.

they come out for water. After you mow the grass they will come out too, thats why after you mow you will see alot of birds on the grass
