Why do people take their little dogs into stores and restaurants?

Some people are so very lonely that they become abnormally attached to their dog. Some people think that because celebrities do it, it is somehow a "cool" thing to do. Some people believe that they are doing the dog a favor by not leaving it home alone.

I would think that they found it to be a valuable tool in talking to others. No doubt many people come up to talk to them about the dog or ask to pet it. Probably a way for lonely folks to get attention because they have a cute little dog.
