  • Yes, but it would unwise for me to identify the slacker. He'll get his. Gotta go Mr. Wilson wants to see me in his office!
  • Yeah I work with someone who is always late. She lives 5 minutes from work, and I live about 25 minutes from work...yet I'm always early. What the crap?
  • Yeah. Me. I don't take too long at breaks and lunch though. I try to make up for missed time when I am late.
  • Yes, we used to call them "goldbrickers". They knew how to increase everyone else's workload by 20 to 30 %.
  • Yes - it's annoying because I'm always on time - she doesn't get penalized at all. She comes in about 5 minutes late every day (sometimes 10) and has several personal phone calls each day (I know because I transfer the calls). Aargh!
  • I work will several people who take 30min breaks instead of 15min and take longer on lunch (there off the clock so its their money), and almost always leave early or come in late. Doesn’t bother me because one day management will notice and its there behind, not mine. Plus, karama is a B***h.
  • i have to say me, im never late to work but take the xtra 5 mins but this doesnt cause more work for my collegues just 4 myself
  • Yes, but not on breaks, necessarily. I work with someone who is consistently late to everything, and our job involves a lot of 'home visits', where we go into people's homes to serve their needs (they are mostly immobile). This is frustrating to me, because the clients rely on us to be there on time. I am always on time, but that is my personality.
  • Oh, lord, yes. Help me, Lord. I love this woman. She is an angel and a sweetheart. But, she drives me up the wall. She thinks her breaks are as long as 'she' needs for them to be. I tell her and tell her, her co-workers are very upset. She says she understands, but she has these "female problems". I can't fight that. I know she is taking advantage of me and her fellow employees. But, when she is running on overdrive, she is the best at her job. I could not replace her. We must sometimes grit our teeth and...smile.
  • I do... but I don't really care because we let each other take breaks here and there... sometimes it gets annoying but that's life.
  • No, because in my job, get late more than once... and youre fired. Dont show up? Then dont bother going back to work. So, in my job, everyone's on time...even the plane! :)
  • Yeah , and it really p***es me off . One bloke at my place comes in exactly ten minutes late every day and he's been doing it for years. What advantage is he getting out of it I ask myself ? He now treats it like it's his perogative and because he does it all the time the managers don't say anything to him !!!!!
  • Yes, my boss! Fortunately she is leaving on Thursday.
  • yes, several people, in fact. arrive late to work, go to/come back from lunch late...very frustrating for those of us who are always on time!
  • Yup i am one of those people. although i am quitting my job and my last day is friday so i dont really care. I just come in, u know 10am, leave at 4, take a 1.5 hour lunch and sit on AB all day. I could care less if i get fired now, i already got another job
  • I have an employee who fits your question to a tee. I have spoken with her about it and it has continued. So, she drops to the bottom of the list for hours. I won't schedule her again unless none of the other 4 employees I have who all manage to be on time and follow the rules and demonstrate common courteousy can't make it. People like that typically have an assumed sense of "priviledge". When confronted, their excuse almost always starts with "I just...". Most of us are late once in a while and everyone needs a little extra break every once in a while, but making a habit of it is taking advantage of your employer and it is taking advantage of your co-workers. It is hugely inconsiderate and people who conduct themselves that way are usually inconsiderate of others in many other ways too.
  • Me! <<<head hanging>>> I really do try. I sometimes think the world is out to get me. If it is not an accident on the highway it is a schoolbus picking up children or an animal getting hit. I drive 1 1/2 hours to work and 1 1/2 hours back home. With that far to travel I can't account for what other people do on the road to slow me down in that amount of time. In bad weather I leave home usually a good hour before I normally would. That's leaving home at 5:30 am to arrive at work at 8:00 am. If I am late, it is only a minute or two. If I'm later than that, something is wrong. And if I'm late, I make up for it by working even harder than I normally would. Well, I used to anyway. I start a new job 30 minutes from home, full time Thursday.
  • My boss. Whaddya gonna do? (shrugs)
  • I have one of those that works for me, for 9 years now. He is late every day, then smokes a cigarette or grabs a snack before working. I do not fire him because once he gets there he does the work of 3 other employees. He will be the cause of my stroke I am sure.
  • she is always late - for everything - and nobody does anything because she is in a wheelchair.
  • YES!!!! It is very annoying and because he is presently the only one who can do his job he thinks he can get away with it (well actually he does and has been). It is FRUSTRATING as hell!!! Always late, leaves early, breaks whenever he wants, long lunches EVERYDAY, always on the phone with personal calls!!! ARGH!!! It is so annoying, and the rest of us that are on time have to eat it because his supervisor doesn't seem to care. Payback is a B***H though and eventually he will get his. Let's see if another job will put up with it since he is looking for a new one :)
  • omg yes lol. hi sits beside me . awsome guy but my god. come in 2 3 hours later. take 30 min breaks lol alllways. my boss doesnt fire him bc he is a very good worker and sales like crazy.
  • I used to and then she got fired, lol.
  • There are trains where I work, two sets of tracks actually just outside our building so it is not uncommon for most of the building to be late on the days the trains are running, or the gates are broken and down holding up traffic... etc. Most of our bosses understand and are leanient about that. In our area, we know that if we are late, we work later, or we take personal time to make up for it. I was late this morning because of unforseen occurrances, I'm taking the time as personal time. Having a department that is flexible and works with me and cares enough about me to give me leeway when it comes to being late, or taking a longer lunch, etc, makes me want to give my all plus some. I will come in on weekends to make backups if the need be, and do I charge the time to work? No. Why? Because my work sacrifices for me, I sacrifice in return. I will do what it takes to get my job done and solve work problems even when they bleed into my personal time, and my work gives what it can to allow me to deal with life situations that bleed into work time. It's a win win situation. If they weren't flexible with me, I'd be less apt to be flexible with them. You give what you get at work quite often. If my boss said "You're 10 minutes late..." and gave me a hard time, and then came up to me another day asking that I stay around later for some reason, I'd me more apt to say nope... I'm outta here at 5. I'd stop what I'm doing and go to lunch at lunch time. I can't tell you how many times my lunch starts late because of stuff I'm working on, finding a good place to stop working... and people look at me when my lunch runs late... they don't know when it started! A flexible, understanding work environment makes for a more dedicated committed workforce.
  • Everyone in my office comes in late for work or takes long breaks. Lunch breaks sometimes involves alcohol... Seriously, our supervisor has named the smoke pit outside the new unofficial conference room because of all the long smoke breaks.
  • Sometimes I am late, not usually but it happens. We have a time clock and if lateness becomes a problem, my manager will address it with the offender. If my boss is late and I have to stand outside waiting for them to open the business for me, it's no big deal. Stuff happens.
  • I have employees that do that. I let it go to an extent because their performance on the job is exceptional but I have to get on them and put my foot down from time to time. They stop for a week and then back at it. It's a work in progress.
  • I used to. I had to constantly pitch at early morning meetings and present briefings in this guy's stead since he couldn't be bothered to show up on time. The worst part was he lied about why he was late. "I had to take my daughter to school" (in the summer?) or "I had a flat tire" (6 times in one year?). I finally busted him and told him that late night pool playing was not an excuse to show up late. I noticed that he was always late on certain days and put two and two together. That still didn't deter his tardiness. . .so I conveniently "forgot" to tell him I had an appointment one morning and would not be able to fill in for him if he "had a flat tire". . .he missed the briefing and then everyone else put two and two together and his credibility was shot. Still no attempt to be on time. Where I worked, if you were more than "X" hours late without notifying your office, Feds were dispatched to your residence to check on your well being. He finally managed to be that late one day and didn't call anyone (my luggage was lost and my cell phone was in it and my phone was cut off). . .doh!
  • Yes, but I guess if they eventually get to work then I'm okay.
  • im always late...but then again im boss
  • hell yeah, half of my colleaugues. they are supreme pain in the butts. some of them even dissappear for extra breaks and we cant find their hiding places. ggrrrr
  • no, because im that person! :o)
  • I work with several people like that but it isn't a deal breaker. A very rigid environment makes miserable people.
  • Used to. She doesn't work there any more.
  • yes, god help me yes. he is a gang member so i feel like i could do nothing about it for fear of getting hurt.
  • If I am late one more time I will no longer have a job to be late for.
  • In my job, you cant just be fired for being late. therefore, we all take turns on long lunches, half days off, and personal errands. its whatever, we save the world, so the world can wait for us. superhuman stuff. if i told you id have to kill you.
  • i work with somebody who is always late, takes 3 half hour potty breaks during the day - takes an hour for lunch tho she is only allowed 1/2 hour -
  • I used to have a co-worker like that...but I got promoted. Go figure.
  • Yes. I worked at this one store where the manager and the manager in training were both late all the time. Hated it. Neither one of them was ever held accountable for their actions. They fixed each others time cards.
  • Look on the bright side. This person is constantly making you look good, as you are always reliable. It's always helpful to have a co-worker who is bit of trouble-it keeps you out of the hot seat.
  • my boss moved the opening hours an hour forward because he got so pissed of with complaining about me being late. in a different job they moved opening time 30 mins later for the same reason, neither company could stay running without me so i couldn't be fired
  • That would be me! : )
  • About 5 of my co-workers suffer from this malady, but I don't let it bother me because it has no effect on my job.
  • Yes. They get written up, told if they keep it up they will be suspended and then terminated, but the store manager keeps letting them slide, so more and more people think it is ok to be late. They say stuff like, "The people who were supposed to take over for me are always late, so I have to stay over until they get here, so I might as well come in late." What is worse, is one of our biggest offenders is a manager. She is consistently 30 minutes to an hour late every day.
  • used to. but it didn't bother me because their money was affected. he ended up getting fired because he would leave at HOURS at a time. this was at a car dealership and it was actually a relaxed environment. i guess that's why he tried to take advantage lol.
  • yes, two guys. they always start 2-10 minutes late, while I usually start 5-20 minutes early. Especilly one guy, always takes longer breaks. One time 3 of us were getting off at the same time and being replaced by three new staff, my other two co-workers replacements came and they left 5 minutes early to count their tills. My replacement didn't relieve me until 15 minutes after my shift ended.
  • I am lucky as I work from home because the main office is in England. But I cannot afford to be late with clients, or take excessive lunches etc.
  • Yep. The produce department is extremely relaxed and pretty much everyone takes extra long breaks and even the occasional extra break! How have you been by the way? I haven't seen you in some time! :D
  • I am that person
  • Work ethic is work ethic good or bad. I have and do work with enough people who milk the clock as hard as they can. The biggest problem I have with it,outside of the fact it's not fair to coworkers or the company is, this usually causes an automatic emergency on everybody's part because the lost time causes job completion to be late.
  • Yes, most of my co workers were that way. I was always in the office 30 minutes early, and in the 16 years that I had worked there, I was never late without prior notice. Never. However, their shortcomings fortunately never affected me or my work, so I never said a word.
  • I had an employee like that. Two actually. I fired them both! One was a kid coming from school that was repeatedly late. When he told me it was difficult to get to work from school on time I moved his shift back 30 minutes to give him plenty of time. When he still came in late I fired him. The other was a woman who came in mega late on her first day while I was slammed with a line out the door working by myself then had the nerve to go to the restroom and primp first! That may have been when the owner told me I needed to have three write ups before I could fire someone. After that I'd just cut their hours so bad they'd find another job and quit. Less paperwork that way.
  • no, wish i had a job
