Given the opportunity: yes, of course. * I'm not saying that they'll eat any kind of fruit. For example: I don't know about citrus fruits. But probably they'll eat anything a horse would eat, including apples and carrots and other "sweet" things ("sweet" relative to grass). * According to rumor/farmer's legend, they'll literally eat themselves to death in a corn field (green corn stalks are very sweet).

Yes. Just don't feed them too many apples, because the cores and seeds are mildly toxic.
