Is it a food garden you want to keep them out of? If so, fencing might help. But if it is the back garden, why would you want to? They are native animals.

Squirrels are cute but wildly annoying for gardeners. Putting a fine mesh down before the planting season begins will prevent them from digging. If you already have established plants, try puttng down chilli peppers...The hotter the better. This will create an unpleasnt digging experience for them and possibly drive them away.

I have found the best way to keep squirrels away is with a dog or cat that can patrol the garden for you.

Never tried this but it sounds like it would work: "To repel squirrels mix naphthalene flakes, gypsum, and chile pepper. Spread around the grow area. The pepper mixture used on rabbits will be effective here as well." Squirrels are rodents with bushy tails to make them look cute. They can be fatally dealt with via Varmint Gun or rat poison. If you are humane, they can be repelled by predator urine pellets (coyote, for instance). Also, a large plastic owl can sometimes act as a "scarecrow". I have also heard that squirrels are sometimes repelled by bad pop music. "Muskrat Love" for instance, causes extreme jealously which will result in them leaving the area.

We have tried the coyote urine,plastic owl, I have two dogs and our corn was once again invaded. They only got to two of them but I am sure they will be back. Anymore ideas?

shoot one, and the nail it to a tree, as a warning to the others lol. erm, stop giving them an insentive to come into your garden, like, bird food. if you do feed bird there are an't squirrel bird feeders avaliable.

Other than a dog that will chase them away, there is no way to keep them out of a yard. But if your problem is a bird feeder, either one of those anti-squirrel types will work or if it's a wooden feeder, soak it in something with chili oil, like dried crushed pepper flakes in water or pour some hot sauce on it and they keeps them away for awhile, though you will need to repeat.

While I don't know about dogs or bird feeders, I would suggest a steady arm, good aim, and a dependable shotgun or whatever gun you have. If nothing else, lace whatever they eat with poison, especially rat poison or something of that sort.

Get a ceramic Owl or a wooden Owl. this will keep out many different kinds of garden pest.

I've hung mothballs in an old stocking near bird feeders and it works! (Moth balls are naptha) Of course, you have to replace every 2 days or so, because morning dew and afternoon rains will deplete the mothballs, but at 98-cents per pound of mothballs, it was well worth it to me! Nasty ol yard rats...

Squirrel repeller! Does just what it says on the tin, easy peasy. I got one a couple of months ago and no sign of the little buggers since! They have been digging in my pots and burying nuts, I feel kind of mean that if they come back to look for them they won't be there any more! A 12 gauge, radiator fluid, arsenic, bear trap, electric fence or a pit bull. Those work with stray cats too.

I prefer a pellet rifle. Seriously though we have a lot of squirrels but they don't bother my garden because of dogs and a couple of huge acorn bearing trees. There's no easy answer as they are complexly woven into the ecosystem. Killing their food supply will cause them to be a problem then you must feed them or kill them which will only cause more problems. It's best that you plant an oak tree for the future so they will have a food source.

I used mothballs, hung in an old nylon stocking that I tied with a bread twistie at the top and knotted at the bottom. Hanging this contraption from a plant hook in the midst of my garden areas drives rodents away (rabbits are a big problem in teh SE US), but has to be replenished every 3-5 days and after every rain. Late advice, but can be used all winter long!

We have that problem too. My hubby shoots them with a BB gun. ( I not around when he does it )

I empathize in a way with my grass... I was trying to create a flat putting green but with those suckers digging up and eating everything, what is the point? I would like to say that going "Caddy Shack" on them is the best way but it is not... let em eat it or build a 6 sided chicken wire cage... wish I was more help

To keep squirrels away from or keep them from eating your garden plants, mix this: * 1 gallon of water * 6 caps full of Murphy's Oil Soap * 2 Tbsp. of cayenne pepper Spray onto plants. This does not harm the plants and WILL keep the squirrels away!

There are products you can buy to hang in trees,hang on the corners of the house, or to poles in the garden etc that will keep squirrels away .... I believe that Lowes and Wal mart carry them ... IF not; there is the little catalogs that we get in the mail that always has them ...
