I think of the trip we took there for a few weeks to visit hubby while he was at Ramstein near Landstuhl. One of my daughters and I went on the train and visited castles while he was working. Our German sucked, but everyone was very nice, and we were actually able to muddle through nicely. That daughter is now in her 3rd year of German in school (the trip got her hooked), and her class will be going on a trip there next summer.

I think about Nazis. I believe that is because I have the most knowledge about Germany from that time period. I mostly think about WWII, the horrors that went on there, and the poor civilians that had their country leveled. Germany makes me sad. I also really want to go there to have a new perspective on the country in modern times.

I was an exchange student there. What I saw was a wonderfully warm people who when they loosen up, as they stand off a bit, make friends for life. An intense and rightful pride in their history....world war 1 and 2 excluded. They are a precise people with intense attention to detail. They have a deep sense of community to their local area. A love of their family and friends. Loyaly and honesty as a rule are traits that the German admires in his friends and by and large practice it as well. They are great team players, which unfortunately was a trait manipulated to Hitler's advantage. They are also a people who are deeply aware of their nation's recent tragic past.

Some things hurt but I think the germasn have to deal with it. But I think other nations will have to deal with things which happened a few years or a few months ago and some things still are going on and thee things do not differ very much from all kinds of cruelties which happened in Germany and which are now history. It is not up to the Germans accusing others. How other nations are dealing with their history and presence is up to them. But almost 95 % of the people who live actually in Germany were not even born when these things happened and for what and why do you want to blame these people for things which happened at a time where they were not even born? If it gives a good feeling to all those who like blaming, I can deal with that. If it is just or unjust the answer all those may give to themselves. Perhaps some of these blaming people have a short look at their own countries and see what heir own contry is doing actually. For me it is important being aware what happened so that it never can be repeated again.
