Either way its not water soluble... Just scoop it out before they eat it.

Depending on the size of the tank, I would suggest that the quantity spilled would not be enough to do any damage, however, for safety's sake, I would still suck up the grey little balls and change one third of the water.

I have no idea, but that's more mercury than is in a CFL and "they" would have you get into biohazard gear to clean up a broken one.

i don't think they make thermometers with mercury anymore, but still you should get it out of the water & maybe change the water.
