When I was small, I had a goldfish called Frankie and my sister had one called Freddie. Frankie died while I was away at my grans, and my parents flushed him down the toilet and bought a new one to fool me. They found one that was the same colour but a lot bigger, and when I got back they told me that Frankie had been really pigging out while I was away because he missed me and that was why he was so much bigger. And, sadly, I believed them. A few months later my sister and I were fighting and she shouted out 'that fish isn't Frankie, we flushed Frankie down the toilet!' I still carry the scars...

I buried mine. I felt like flushing was inhumane. They're buried in our flower garden in a shady spot. :)

Why not feed it to a pet cat? Better than feeding it to the earth for it to rot away slowly or to feed to the toilet pan to have an undignified end with your bodily waste.

All of my goldfish, that have died, i have buried in my garden. I have always thought it mean to flush their bodys down the toilet as,even though they are just fish, they should be respected.

We recently had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with this very question, when Tuna fish died. My 7 yr old sons goldfish. We decided after some considerable family debate that flushing would be the correct solution to his funeral requirments. Therefore all the family (5 of us in total) gathered in the small bathroom with a short prayer and proceeded with the service. I have to add our decision was helped by the film finding Nemo that perhaps his spirit might be release eventually back to the sea!! Hope this helps.

Bury it. If your goldfish died while it was still a small enough size to be flushed down the toilet, you really did not take good care of your fish.

i fed it to my turtles

When my freshwater fish die(that is rare) I bury them under one of my plants, when my saltwater die; That hasn't happened yet so I don't know, flush them I guess.

Sometimes into the compost pile, most often in the trash

My turtle usually eats the fish before they have a chance to get old and die. But I would probably flush him, and have a little ceremony in the bathroom for my kids. We had a hamster and it dies of old age (I think) well my daughter was so upset, we had a funeral and buried it in the flower graden. She invited some friends and family and we all said our prayers and something nice about the hamster that kept me up all night every night. We never will own another hamster.
-
Well, I kind of accidentally poured mine down the sink while changing the water. The sad part is that it wasn't dead until i did that. Oops
