Sorry to be so horribly obvious but someone has to say this. It depends where you lose it... If you drop it off the side of a boat in the ocean you have a slim chance i'd say, but if you lose it in your room, slightly better chance. Stolen laptops are extremely rare to be returned, if you lost yours, good luck with the search.

I'm told there is a Mac application that will cause a stolen computer to call the police with its location and a picture of the thief taken with its built-in webcam.
