No, the simplest reason why not is because I don't believe in God. Not the God from which that quote stems atleast. Even assuming I did believe in that God, then the fact that people commit suicide or become insane states the obvious fact that they have more than they can handle.

He often gives us things we cannot handle on our own with our own strength. That is why Paul said, "When I am weak, then I am strong." That is when we turn to God for help, strength, and guidance. Sometimes, it is also part of his ln for us to draw upon the strengths of some people He brings into our lives. Since God has an interest in our growth, He often challenges us beyond our immediate abilities. If we choose not to grow, we falter. If we reach our, we prosper.

No, for two reasons: 1. the high rate of suicides; clearly, these people had more going on than they could handle; and 2. I'm an atheist, and I know that burdens or disasters come on us -- because we choose them (like choosing to have kids can be a good burden, or a hard one; and like choosing to start smoking is a health disaster) or -- because there's a natural mathematical distribution of disasters, some of which can be calculated (living as far inland as I do, I'm 100% safe from typhoons and shark attacks) and some of which cannot (a certain number of people will be hit by drunk drivers each year; it's pretty hard to calculate your chance of that although you can try by taking into account the amount of night driving you do, the number of young drivers in your community, etc.) A lot of people blame or credit their god for things that are either entirely random (who gets hit by a meteor, for instance) or entirely predictable (you're going to die, and your mother's going to die, and everyone you've ever loved is going to die). They seem to cling to the idea that "everything happens for God's reasons" because it comforts them to think that even the bad things in their life happen because a loving god wants them to, instead of -- taking responsibility for their own choices, which may not turn out very well sometimes -- admitting that a lot of what happens to us is totally uncontrollable and happens for no spiritual reason at all.

No, and this answer does not depend on belief or disbelief in God. I do think that most people grow in character and spirit by overcoming difficulties that LIFE throws at them, but I think that the occurrence of the difficulties is partly cause-effect owing to our own and others' actions and partly sheer random. As for people's being able to handle the difficulties - what about the mental illness into which some people slide because they canNOT handle what is just too much. Genetics and nurture create the brain chemistry we call personality, and some people can bear a great deal of stress, some others very little, before breaking - whether they pray or do not pray.

It is by a pastor whose wife took her own life. Yes, it happens, even to those who have faith and believe in God. Yes I do believe that Scripture. I claim it often and God will and does provide a way of escape. What that way is varies from person to person but what all Christians have in common in regards to that way is the Bible. If one fill's their heart with the Bible instead of the world, that way of escape is much easier. Yahweh God is true to His Word.

If that is a quote I'm not sure where it comes from. No doesn't seem there is any Scriptural basis for it. Just seems to me it is merely something people say to comfort other people.
