What a question dear friend! There are thousands of thousands of pieces you could now call "the most beautiful." If you're really into classical music you can only have "your current" favourite and then "your list" of favourite ones. The beauty of classical or ART MUSIC (which goes beyond the so called classical genre) is quite different than the standards used in commercial music. A beautiful or catchy melody plus decent lyrics may be enough in pop, but in Art Music there are very many elements to consider. First, you don't have lyrics, so you have to concentrate in the language of sound. Then you have a combination of elements you will never hear in pop music: varied rhythms; original melodies and their variations; rich, daring harmonies; colourful instrumentation and textures; intelligent musical discourse; melodic and harmonic development, etc. This usually requires longer time than that of the 3 to 4 minutes pop standard, and more attention and previous education. But it is worth the effort. My favourite? What about Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Child?

By far the most "exciting" for me is; Sonate Nº 23 op 57 "Appassionata" played by Richter What I wouldn't give to be able to play this one. It's the level of difficulty that is awesome.
-
Also... Hans Zimmer's "Why So Serious" from The Dark Knight soundtrack is amazing.

I'm answering this to let people know my own thoughts. To me this question is a moving target. Tomorrow, I may hear a new piece or new version of something I already know, that will strike me. Today I have two contenders for what I think is the most beautiful piece of Classical music. Puccini: Gianni Schicchi - O Mio Babbin Caro and Rachmaninoff: Isle of the Dead, two opposite spectrum end pieces. One is light, the other is dark.
